First Impressions
The Track Tour SiC comes in an extremely menacing black solid color blend that signals absolute control. At the heart of this model beats the symmetrical DNA Core, which features a high 2.580 RG and a very low 0.023 differential. The outer layer consists of the DR-4 Solid Reactive coverstock, sanded out of the box to a dull 500 and 3000 Abralon finish. This combination of a rev-friendly core, low flare potential and a moderately coarse solid cover should make the ball start up extremely predictably and generate a smooth, quiet motion through the midlane.
Comparison
Compared to the Track Tour X Solid, which has a nearly identical setup, the Tour SiC offers even more consistent friction on the lane thanks to the silicon carbide (SiC) in the cover, along with a marginally smoother reaction at the breakpoint. Against the Storm IQ Tour Solid, the core delivers a somewhat tamer change of direction, since the differential is lower. Once the transition sets in and the lane builds up uneven friction, the Tour SiC benefits enormously from its flat core dynamics. It smooths out the differences.
On the Lanes
The Track Tour SiC is ideally suited to lane conditions with medium oil volume or to demanding, flat sport patterns. For strokers and tweeners it offers the chance to play the boards very directly, since the surface minimizes unexpected reactions. The steady drive toward the pocket should provide reliable carry, especially when absolute accuracy is required. Once the lane gets extremely wet, however, the ball can react too weakly because of its low differential.
