First Impressions
The Storm Hy-Road Purple comes in the classic design of a black and ultramarine blue cover with the proven R2S Hybrid Reactive coverstock. This hybrid combination consists of 50% solid and 50% pearl resins and ships with a 1500-grit polish. At its heart sits the Modified Inverted Fe2 Technology, which produces a lower RG value and increases the ball's flare potential. The 14-pound version has an RG of 2.58 with a 0.037 differential, while the 13-pound version shows a 2.59 RG and a 0.045 differential. Flare potential is rated medium to high.
Comparison
The Hy-Road Purple combines the strong midlane performance of the Storm T-Road Solid with the powerful breakpoint of the Storm T-Road Pearl. Storm positioned the ball strategically between these two predecessors, with the hybrid serving as the ideal transition ball when the T-Road Solid gets too aggressive, while still offering better midlane control than the Pearl. Compared to the Storm IQ Tour, the Hy-Road Purple reads a bit later thanks to its polished hybrid surface and shows a sharper backend hook. The R2S Hybrid coverstock is considered one of Storm's best hybrid developments, delivering consistent reaction both on fresh lanes and in carrydown.
On the Lanes
The ball was developed specifically for medium to medium-heavy oil conditions and provides easy length on those conditions with a strong, consistent reaction at the breakpoint. While crankers are used to seeing strong midlane and breakpoint reactions, the Hy-Road Purple makes those traits available to strokers and tweeners as well. The ball's continuous motion creates a consistent reaction for many different player types and establishes it as a true benchmark ball. The hybrid cover lets the ball work on lightly oiled and dry conditions too, though it reaches its limits on extreme conditions. Surface adjustments help on very oily conditions, while weaker layouts can help on drier conditions. If you're looking for a reliable ball for varying lane conditions, the Hy-Road Purple should offer the perfect balance between control and power.
