BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Storm Virtual X is an exciting international release from April 2019 that revives the legendary Virtual Gravity series. Technically, the ball is built on the iconic Shape-Lock HD core, which delivers massive core dynamics with a low 2.48 RG and a high 0.052 differential. The "HD" stands for High Density, which helps the ball rev up extremely quickly. The real highlight, though, is the R4S Hybrid Reactive coverstock. This shell blend is considered one of the more porous variants in the Reactor series and offers more traction than the familiar R2S formula. Out of the box, the ball comes with a 1500-grit polished finish, which gives it a shiny look and lets it glide cleanly through the heads despite the strong core, before it shows its teeth in the midlane.
Comparison
The Virtual X positions itself as a modernized version of the classic Virtual Gravity. Where the original read very early with a rough solid shell, the Virtual X offers considerably more length and a more defined "kick" off the backend thanks to the R4S hybrid cover and the polish. Compared to the Storm AstroPhysix, which is also polished and asymmetric, the Virtual X reads the midlane slightly earlier due to the R4S formula and feels overall "heavier" in its roll. Next to a Storm Code X (solid), the Virtual X is noticeably cleaner through the front part of the lane and responds more angularly to friction, while the Code X makes a rounder, more arcing move. It combines the midlane control of a hybrid with the backend angle of a pearl.
On the Lanes
The Storm Virtual X is made for medium to heavy oil conditions where you want to open up the lane. Thanks to the Shape-Lock HD core, it generates enough flare to find traction even in oil, but the polished finish keeps it from losing its skid too early. It's an excellent choice for the transition phase: when dull balls like the Storm Phaze II start giving up energy too soon, the Virtual X provides the length needed to move further inside, yet keeps enough power for an explosive hit into the pocket. If you love the legendary "Virtual Gravity" roll but have to play on modern, often drier lanes, this is the ideal solution. It's forgiving when you miss out, because the core pulls the ball back powerfully.
