First Impressions
The Storm !Q Tour Red, released as a special edition around November 2018 (often listed as an international release or limited edition), immediately catches the eye with its solid, bright red look. Technically it is a clone of the legendary "Navy Blue" !Q Tour Edition. Inside works the proven C3 Centripetal Control Core with a low 2.49 RG and an equally low 0.029 differential (at 15 lbs). This control-oriented core is wrapped in the R2S Solid Reactive coverstock, which comes out of the box with a 4000-grit Abralon finish in most cases. That combination promises classic "benchmark" behavior: an early read of the lane, but with an extremely smooth and predictable motion and no jumpy reaction at the breakpoint.
Comparison
Compared directly to the original dark blue Storm !Q Tour Edition, the !Q Tour Red behaves almost identically, though many bowlers report that the red pigmentation of the cover gives it slightly more length and a touch more pop off the backend than the dark blue original. Against a Storm Phaze II, the !Q Tour Red is clearly weaker and more controllable; it does not dig into the oil as early and saves more energy for the pins, but it covers fewer boards overall. Compared to the Storm Hy-Road, the !Q Tour Red reads the midlane earlier and offers a smoother arc, while the Hy-Road reacts more angular and later.
On the Lanes
The !Q Tour Red is the ultimate "safety ball" and an excellent choice as the first ball out of the bag on unfamiliar or difficult lane conditions. It fits sport patterns or freshly conditioned house shots perfectly, where the backend reacts in a jumpy, wet/dry manner. Thanks to the low differential, flare stays tight, which makes the ball extremely controllable. It forgives inaccuracies at the release and helps you control the pocket without risking unexpected overreaction. It is especially effective if you like to play the ball more direct or need to stay in control on patterns with plenty of friction on the outside edge.
