First Impressions
The Storm Marvel Maxx LE was released in July 2017 as an exclusive international (Overseas) release, aimed at players looking for the legendary Marvel feel combined with the latest surface technology. Unlike the simultaneously released reissue of the "Marvel Pearl," which used the R2X material, the Marvel Maxx LE uses the NRG Smooth Pearl Reactive coverstock. This cover is based on nano technology, which creates microscopically small peaks on the surface to generate more hold in oil. Out of the box, the ball comes with a 1500-grit polished finish, giving it an attractive shine. At its heart remains the proven Centripetal Core, a symmetrical core with an extremely low center of gravity (low RG: 2.48 at 15 lbs) and a medium-high differential (0.050). This combination promises very early but stable rotation, which gets enough length thanks to the pearl cover.
Comparison In comparison, the Marvel Maxx LE shows itself to be an interesting hybrid of classic length and modern traction. Compared to the original Storm Marvel Pearl (R2S Pearl), the Marvel Maxx LE reads the midlane noticeably earlier and smooths out the reaction at the breakpoint more. Where the classic Marvel Pearl often reacts "snappy," the Maxx LE offers a rounder motion thanks to the NRG component. Compared to the Storm Phaze II, which as a solid ball grabs considerably earlier and generates more overall hook, the Marvel Maxx LE offers a cleaner passage through the heads and stores more energy for the backend. Against the Storm Code Red, which is asymmetrical and very angular, the Marvel Maxx LE stays more controlled and smoother through the transition, which makes it less prone to "over/under" reactions.
On the Lanes The ideal range for the Storm Marvel Maxx LE is medium oil conditions, where a mix of authority in oil and control on the dry is called for. The NRG Smooth Pearl cover allows the ball to ignore light films of oil in the middle of the lane without overreacting on a dry backend. That makes it an excellent choice when the lane gets spotty or the transition sets in. If you throw the ball fast, you'll benefit from the nano technology, since the ball doesn't slide through the breakpoint as easily as conventional pearl balls. For tournament players it is often the first choice for moving farther inside after a strong solid ball (like the Marvel Maxx Solid or Phaze II) without having to give up the controllable core characteristics. It combines the forgiveness of the Centripetal core with the chemical traction of the nano cover for solid carry.
