First Impressions
The Storm Code Platinum comes in a striking Silver and Black Pearl color blend. At the heart of this model beats the famous asymmetric RAD4 core, which carries a 2.500 RG, a 0.058 differential and a 0.020 intermediate differential. The outer layer consists of the proven R2S Pearl Reactive coverstock, finished at the factory with a 1500 grit polish. This combination of an enormously strong asymmetric engine and a low-friction shell should let the ball glide through the heads extremely easily and deliver an incomparably sharp, asymmetric reaction at the breakpoint.
Comparison
Compared to the Storm Code Black, which follows a similar design, the Code Platinum offers a minimally different hook shape thanks to slight modifications, but remains identical in core dynamics. Against the Storm Phaze II, the asymmetric core of the Code Platinum produces a drastically stronger and more angular change of direction at the breakpoint. As friction on the lane increases and the transition dries up the front part of the lane, this ball benefits enormously from its R2S Pearl cover, since it stores its energy perfectly for the backend.
On the Lanes
The Storm Code Platinum is best suited to lane conditions with medium oil volume. For strokers and tweeners it offers the option of playing deeper lines on broken-down patterns, since the surface doesn't find any unwanted hold. The strong asymmetric drive toward the pocket should deliver convincing carry, as the ball builds a massive angle. Once the lane is extremely wet, however, the ball can slide through and miss the breakpoint. In those situations a dull cover is the better call.
