First Impressions
The Storm Virtual Gravity N/S comes in a striking two-color solid look. At its center works the legendary asymmetric Shape-Lock HD core, featuring a 2.480 RG, a strong 0.052 differential and a 0.020 intermediate differential. This core is wrapped in the high-performance NRG Solid Reactive coverstock, given a matte finish. These specs position the Virtual Gravity N/S as a high-performance ball for heavy oil. In combination with the nano shell, the strong asymmetric engine should have the ball building massive traction in the heads.
Comparison
Compared directly to the classic Storm Virtual Gravity, the N/S version shows noticeably more bite in oil thanks to the more modern NRG cover, along with an even stronger overall reaction in the midlane. Compared to the Storm Phaze II, the Virtual Gravity N/S behaves distinctly more dominantly in its change of direction because of its asymmetric core. Once the transition sets in during a block and friction on the outside boards increases, the extremely solid surface loses energy quickly. It needs a solid oil base in the front part of the lane to avoid burning up early.
On the Lanes
The Storm Virtual Gravity N/S was developed specifically for use on heavily oiled lane conditions. On fresh patterns it lets you generate the hook needed to cross boards effectively and pull the ball reliably into the pocket. The pronounced asymmetric core should optimize carry through a steep entry angle. On dry or medium conditions, though, this ball is often overqualified; it burns its energy too early and risks hitting the pins flat and weak.
