First Impressions
The Storm Nano Lock shows up in an extremely menacing Black, Grey and Orange solid color combination. At the center works the massive asymmetric RAD-X core, which carries a 2.480 RG, a hefty 0.054 differential and a 0.018 intermediate differential. This core is wrapped in the legendary NRG Solid Reactive coverstock, finished to a dull 2000 grit Abralon. These specs position the Nano Lock as the ultimate high-performance ball for huge amounts of oil. In combination with the Nano cover, the strong asymmetric core should make the ball grab brutally early and create massive motion.
Comparison
Compared directly to the Storm Snap Lock with its clean pearl shell, the Nano Lock shows a drastically earlier and rounder reaction at the breakpoint. Compared to the Storm Alpha Crux, the Nano Lock behaves very similarly, though the NRG surface generates a touch more microscopic traction on fresh oil. Once the transition sets in during a block and friction increases on the outside boards, the Nano Lock's extremely dull solid surface loses usable energy very quickly. It absolutely requires a massive oil base in the front part of the lane.
On the Lanes
The Storm Nano Lock was developed specifically for use on heavily oiled and extremely long lane conditions. It lets you generate the hook needed to cross boards effectively even under the most adverse conditions. The pronounced asymmetric core should optimize carry through a strong and steady entry angle into the pocket. On dry or medium conditions, however, this ball is completely overqualified; it burns up its energy too early and runs the risk of barely reaching the pins.
