First Impressions
The Storm Sword arrives as an overseas release in a classy, multi-color look. At its center works the proven symmetrical Centripetal Core, which carries a 2.480 RG and a strong 0.050 differential. This core is wrapped in a reactive pearl coverstock finished to a high gloss. These specs position the Sword as a reliable benchmark ball for a wide range of oil patterns. In combination with the smooth cover, the symmetrical core should let the ball glide safely through the heads and produce a very continuous motion.
Comparison
In a direct comparison with the Storm IQ Tour Pearl, the Sword shows a very similar, steady and predictable reaction at the breakpoint, but uses the flare potential of the Centripetal core for a somewhat stronger overall reaction. Compared to the Storm Phaze II, the Sword stays clean noticeably longer through the midlane thanks to its pearl shell. When the transition sets in during a block and friction on the outside boards increases, the pearl surface takes good advantage of the dry to swing a clean arc into the pins.
On the Lanes
The Storm Sword was developed specifically for use on medium lane conditions. It lets you cross boards effectively without having to fear sudden overreaction. The pronounced symmetrical core should optimize carry through a steady entry angle into the pocket. On extremely dry conditions, however, this ball can sometimes react too strongly, while on pure, fresh oil it can give up traction because of the polished shell.
