First Impressions
The Storm Crux Crystal impresses as an Asian/international premium release in a classy pearl look. Inside works the extremely strong asymmetric Catalyst Core with a 2.500 RG, a massive 0.052 differential and a 0.017 intermediate differential. For the cover, Storm relies on a highly polished ERG Pearl Reactive shell. This combination of the asymmetric Catalyst core and the low-friction, smooth cover should let the ball clear the heads effortlessly and save all of its energy for a massive, asymmetric kick on the backend.
Comparison
Compared directly to the regular Storm Crux Pearl, the Crux Crystal behaves extremely similarly and delivers an identical, drastic backend motion with a slightly adjusted cover blend. Against the Storm Alpha Crux, which uses a dull solid cover, the Crux Crystal provides far cleaner length, but builds a similarly hefty hook at the breakpoint thanks to the same core engine. When friction on the lane is high and the transition dries up the front part of the lane, the Crux Crystal preserves its energy outstandingly well.
On the Lanes
The Storm Crux Crystal is best suited to lane conditions with medium oil volume. If you're a stroker or throw at moderate ball speed, it gives you the option to play deeper lines, since the cover saves energy while the asymmetric core provides the massive response off the friction. The tremendous drive toward the pocket should deliver convincing carry. On fresh, extremely heavy oil, however, this ball can lack traction because of the polished finish. It is an absolute weapon at the breakpoint.
