First Impressions
The Storm Code Gold turns heads as an exclusive international release with its all-gold pearl design. Inside works the legendary asymmetric RAD4 core, featuring a 2.500 RG, a strong 0.058 differential and a 0.020 intermediate differential. For the cover, Storm relies on the R2S Pearl coverstock, finished out of the box with a 1500 grit polish. This combination of an extremely strong asymmetric engine and a polished pearl shell should let the ball clear the heads effortlessly and turn over hard and sharp on the backend.
Comparison
Compared directly to the Storm Code Black, which also uses a pearl cover, the Code Gold shows nearly identical length and a far more angular backend reaction, varying only through minimal cover adjustments. Against the Storm Snap Lock, the asymmetric core of the Code Gold delivers a very similar weight distribution and a comparably punchy reaction at the breakpoint. When friction on the lane is high and the transition dries up the front part of the lane, it retains its energy extremely effectively and reacts snappily.
On the Lanes
The Storm Code Gold is best suited to lane conditions with medium oil volume. For strokers and bowlers with moderate ball speed, it offers the chance to play deep lines, since the cover saves energy while the strong core provides the extreme backend response. The asymmetric drive toward the pocket should deliver convincing carry. On fresh, extremely heavy oil, however, this ball can lack traction due to its polished finish. It's a weapon for open angles.
