First Impressions
The Storm Marvel Maxx stands out with a classy pearl look that's built for performance. Inside works the symmetrical Centripetal Core with a 2.480 RG and a low 0.050 differential. For the cover, Storm relies on the NRG Pearl Reactive coverstock, which comes highly polished out of the box. This combination of an extremely early-revving core and a low-friction shell should let the ball clear the heads effortlessly and save its energy for a moderate kick on the backend.
Comparison
Compared directly to the Storm Marvel Pearl, the Maxx is marginally stronger through the heads and offers an extremely tame backend motion thanks to the NRG cover. Against the Storm Phaze II, the Maxx delivers very similar length and builds an almost identical, smooth hook at the breakpoint. When friction on the lane is high and the transition dries up the front part of the lane, the Maxx preserves its energy very well and makes a moderate move without any wild jumps.
On the Lanes
The Storm Marvel Maxx is best suited to lane conditions with medium oil volume. For strokers and bowlers with moderate ball speed, it offers the option of playing direct lines, since the cover stores energy. The smooth drive toward the pocket should deliver solid carry. On fresh, extremely heavy oil, however, this ball can come up completely short on traction due to the polished finish and the weak layout.
