First Impressions
The Storm Tough Road turns heads with its classic black and silver solid design. At its center works the legendary symmetric Inverted Fe2 Technology core, which shows a high 2.570 RG and a strong 0.046 differential. This core is wrapped in the R2S Solid Reactive coverstock, which has been given a matte finish. The high RG makes the core rotate late, which in combination with the smooth but matte cover should let the ball glide effortlessly through the heads and produce a very smooth benchmark motion.
Comparison
In a direct comparison with the Storm Hy-Road Solid, the Tough Road grabs extremely similarly and offers a considerably more agile, rounder reaction at the breakpoint. Against the Storm Phaze II, the Tough Road behaves very similarly on dried-up lanes and offers a powerful hook. As soon as the transition sets in and the front part of the lane dries up, this ball is in its element. It wants friction at the breakpoint in order to unload its gentle motion through the heads massively into the pins.
On the Lanes
The Storm Tough Road finds its preferred territory on medium lane conditions. It is the perfect choice if you need a ball on broken-down patterns that slides easily through the heads and creates a steady, massive hook toward the pocket. The late reaction helps attack the breakpoint from flat angles. The ball should secure carry when the angles are good. On extremely fresh oil, however, it often loses too much energy.
