The Roto Grip Hustler Black Solid arrives as an international release from June 2024 and extends the Hustler series with a solid urethane option. The ball combines the proven Hustle Core, a symmetrical core with a medium RG of 2.530 (15 lbs) and a low differential of 0.030, with the SteadyTrax Solid Urethane cover. This coverstock formulation is based on the same underlying chemistry as that of the Storm Pitch Black and should provide reliable control on the lanes. Out of the box, the ball comes with a particularly coarse 500 grit Abralon surface, making it one of the most aggressive members of the Hustler line. The Hustle Core has established itself as a reliable foundation for controllable ball motion since its introduction and was even used in 2017 for the 34th sanctioned 900 series in USBC history, which underscores the capability of this core design.
Comparison
Within the Hustler family, the Black Solid positions itself as the earliest and most aggressive option among the urethane balls. Compared to the Hustler Navy, which ships with a 1000 grit surface, the Black Solid should grab considerably earlier and create more friction in the heads thanks to its 500 grit surface. As an overseas release, note that the ball is USBC approved but may not be approved for PBA competition.
