First Impressions
The Roto Grip MVP Attitude was released in August 2020 and comes in an attractive color combination of Golden Pearl, Violet Pearl and Purple Solid. Technically, the ball is built on the proven Neutron NXT core with a 2.55 RG and a 0.040 differential. The cover is the VTC-H20 Hybrid Reactive coverstock, and it arrives out of the box with a 3000 grit Abralon finish. The color combination corresponds to a two parts pearl to one part solid cover blend, which should give the ball a balanced character between length and traction.
Comparison
Compared to the Roto Grip MVP Pearl, the Attitude picks up several feet earlier and covers more boards overall. Against the original MVP, it hooks earlier and shows more backend continuation, while the more aggressive surface allows it to handle more oil than the first MVP with its polished surface. Compared to the Storm Match Up BRB, the MVP Attitude is a bit earlier, smoother and stronger. The hybrid character is strongly reminiscent of a stronger Roto Grip Wrecker, while the ball's control brings the Roto Grip Wild Streak to mind. For players looking for something that rolls more heavily through the pins but offers a similar strength level to the Storm !Q Tour Solid, this ball should be a fit.
On the Lanes
Designed for medium oil conditions, the MVP Attitude should be an outstanding option when you need a ball that gets through the heads, doesn't skid as far as a pearl, but still responds well to friction. The ball can be used on medium to heavy oil as well as on some lighter conditions, and it lets you play multiple angles on a variety of patterns. This ball can be the first ball out of the bag for 75% of league bowlers. The control gives it a predictable motion while it stays strong through the pins. For an HP2-line ball, it reads the midlane very well and retains energy through the pins. The hybrid material should generate more midlane traction without sacrificing responsiveness to friction on the lanes.
