First Impressions
The Roto Grip Halo Vision shows up in an eye-catching color scheme of gold and Sky Blue Pearl combined with Purple Solid. The ball uses the proven asymmetric Centrum core, which has established itself as one of the best asymmetric cores in Roto Grip's history. At 15 pounds it carries a 2.49 RG, a 0.050 differential and a 0.018 mass bias differential. The eTrax-H19 Hybrid Reactive coverstock comes out of the box with a 4000-grit finish. This hybrid formulation was developed specifically to create more surface roughness without losing responsiveness to friction.
Comparison
The Halo Vision sits between the Roto Grip Crux Prime and the Roto Grip Halo Pearl in terms of overall hook. Because it's a hybrid, it runs cleaner than the original Roto Grip Halo, but not as long as the Roto Grip Halo Pearl. It is basically as strong as the Roto Grip Halo Solid, but with a bit more pop downlane, and it is definitely stronger than the Roto Grip Halo Pearl. Roto Grip markets it as the "Defiant Soul on steroids," which is meant to underline the aggressive yet still controllable ball reaction they're aiming for. Compared to the Storm Lock, also a hybrid, the Centrum core is not as forward-rolling as the Rad-X core, which gives the Halo Vision less angularity.
On the Lanes
The Halo Vision is designed for medium to heavy oil volume and should provide more surface roughness while retaining its responsiveness to friction. It should give bowlers confidence on heavy oil, and the way it handles oil and reacts strong and smooth at the breakpoint should be impressive. It offers easy hook through the oil and a strong move at the end of the pattern. The most obvious benefit of this ball reaction is midlane control with good downlane motion, and you should feel like you can throw the ball away without it breaking through the breakpoint. It should be suitable for medium to heavy PBA shots as well as THS conditions, though its strong asymmetric character limits it to higher volume conditions or to certain playing styles on medium conditions.
