The Roto Grip IDOL Lime Green was released in January 2018 as an exclusive overseas edition, adding a visually striking variant in bright neon green to the then-new IDOL series. Technically, the ball is built around the symmetric Ikon core, which with a 2.49 RG and a 0.052 differential at 15 pounds is designed for quick rotation and high flare potential. What sets this edition apart is the use of the MicroTrax-S18 Solid Reactive coverstock, which employs nanotechnology to achieve maximum interlock with the lane. Out of the box, the ball comes with a dull 2000 Abralon finish, underscoring its purpose on oily conditions and giving it an extremely strong, matte look.
Comparison Compared to the standard IDOL in magenta, which came out worldwide shortly afterward, the IDOL Lime Green offers an identical core/cover combination, though players often report that the overseas shell feels slightly more aggressive. Placed next to the Storm Phaze II, the IDOL Lime Green reads the lane noticeably earlier and offers a more controlled, rounder motion, while the Phaze II shows a bit more length and a more pronounced change of direction at the breakpoint. Compared to the Roto Grip Halo, an asymmetric high-performance ball from the same era, the IDOL Lime Green is easier to control thanks to its symmetric core and is more forgiving of release inconsistencies, without giving up overall hook on heavy oil. Compared to weaker balls such as the Roto Grip Hustle Ink, the IDOL Lime Green offers a massive increase in traction and is clearly superior on high-volume patterns.
On the Lanes The Roto Grip IDOL Lime Green is designed as a powerhouse for medium to heavy oil conditions. It should help you find an early and stable ball motion even on slick lanes, setting a reliable path to the pocket. Thanks to the combination of low RG and the strong nano shell, the ball doesn't skid uncontrolled through the heads but starts working early in the midlane, which allows excellent control over the breakpoint. It is especially suited to you if you throw the ball fast and often struggle with too much skid. On typical house shots (THS), it plays to its strengths above all in the first game, as long as there is still enough oil. Once the lanes dry up through transition, it's advisable to move your playing position further inside or switch to a ball with a cleaner pearl surface, in order to avoid hooking up too early and losing power at the pins.
