First Impressions
The Roto Grip Critical comes in an easy-to-read blue and purple solid color combination. At its center works the symmetrical Triliance Core, which carries a 2.490 RG and a moderate 0.038 differential. This core is wrapped in the 67MH Solid coverstock, finished with a 4000 grit Abralon surface. These specs position the Critical as a classic, enormously strong benchmark ball. In combination with the rougher solid surface, the rev-friendly symmetrical core should make the ball grab the lane securely and early while producing an absolutely controllable and even motion.
Comparison
In a direct comparison with the Roto Grip Haywire, which has an even stronger surface, the Critical shows a bit more length through the heads and a slightly smoother reaction at the breakpoint. Compared to the Storm IQ Tour Solid, the Critical behaves very similarly and delivers outstanding midlane control. When the transition sets in over the course of a game and friction increases on the outside boards, the Critical's moderate solid surface makes good use of the dry area to maintain a smooth, arcing line instead of overreacting aggressively.

The Roto Grip Critical was developed specifically for use on medium lane conditions. It allows you to read the oil pattern perfectly, because the motion is extremely predictable. The symmetrical core should optimize carry through a steady entry angle into the pocket. It is the ideal ball for the first game of the night. On extremely dry or completely flooded conditions, however, this ball reaches its limits, since it lacks either the length or the sheer power there.
