First Impressions
The Roto Grip Loco (Pearl) stands out with an extremely bright, eye-catching pearl look. Inside works the symmetrical Late Roll 48 core, which carries a high 2.570 RG and a low 0.025 differential. For the cover, Roto Grip relies on the 45L Pearl Reactive coverstock, finished out of the box with a 1500 grit polish. These specs should make the ball get into its motion extremely late and glide safely through the heads on dry lanes. The cover and the core provide a perfect foundation for a very smooth roll phase in the backend.
Comparison
In direct comparison with the Roto Grip Loco (Solid), the pearl version shows noticeably longer ball motion, delivers less traction in oil and a much more angular reaction at the breakpoint. Against the Storm Tropical Breeze, the Loco Pearl offers a comparably calm, steady hook thanks to its somewhat different core design. When transition changes the lane and dry spots develop, the smooth surface of the Loco Pearl keeps the ball from overreacting uncontrollably at the breakpoint. It reacts sharply, but forgives mistakes.
On the Lanes
The Roto Grip Loco (Pearl) is most at home on dried-up and light lane conditions. It is an excellent option if you are looking for a clean, predictable ball motion once the lanes have seen a lot of play. The symmetrical core creates a clear angle at the breakpoint, which builds confidence when playing direct lines. The ball should secure your carry through its late entry into the pocket. On very fresh patterns, however, it slides right through without mercy.
