First Impressions
The 2014 edition of the Roto Grip Scream comes in an extremely bright Pink and Green Pearl color blend. At the heart of this model beats the symmetric Late Roll 46 core, which carries a medium RG of 2.530 and a moderate differential of 0.038. The outer layer consists of the 42L Pearl Reactive coverstock, brought to a high shine with a 1500-grit polish out of the box. This combination of a late-revving core and the smooth surface should let the ball glide extremely safely through the heads and react angularly only late in the backend.
Comparison
Compared to the Roto Grip Outcry, the Scream picks up noticeably later thanks to its pearl cover and offers a considerably more agile, more angular reaction at the breakpoint. Against the Storm Tropical Breeze, the Scream delivers a similarly clean skid phase and an almost identical, gentle hook at the end of the pattern. When friction on the lane is high and the transition dries up the front part of the lane, this ball is extremely effective. It wants dry boards in order to carry its gentle dynamics into the pins.
On the Lanes
The Roto Grip Scream is ideally suited to lane conditions with light oil volume. For strokers and tweeners it offers the chance to play direct lines on dried-up patterns, since the surface finds no unwanted hold in the heads. The late drive toward the pocket should provide convincing carry, as the ball creates a clean angle. Once the lane is heavily wet, however, the ball can hit flat and miss the pocket.
