First Impressions
The Radical Zing! Hybrid stands out visually with its modern color scheme in Blue Solid, Silver, and Charcoal Pearl. Technically, Radical combines two of the year's most successful components here: the asymmetric Zing core, developed specifically to generate maximum dynamics even without a balance hole, and the Forged 2 Hybrid coverstock. The core numbers are laid out on the sporty side, with a 2.499 RG, a 0.051 differential, and a 0.020 intermediate differential. Out of the box, the ball comes with a 500 and 1000 Siaair finish, polished with Crown Factory Compound. This prep keeps the ball from starting to roll immediately, letting it clear the heads cleanly before it finds traction in the midlane. Another technical highlight is the use of DynamiCore technology in the outer shell, which audibly and noticeably increases the hitting power at the pin deck.
Comparison
Compared directly to the simultaneously released Radical Squatch Hybrid, the Zing! Hybrid shows noticeably more overall strength. While the Squatch Hybrid (symmetric) offers a more controllable and smoother motion, the Zing! Hybrid uses its asymmetry for a more aggressive change of direction at the breakpoint and covers more boards. Against the original Radical Zing (solid), the hybrid version offers considerably more length and stores more energy for the backend, where the solid often rolls out already. Drawing a comparison to the Storm AstroPhysix, the Zing Hybrid behaves in a similarly dynamic way ("skid-snap"), but reads the midlane a touch earlier thanks to the Forged 2 Hybrid blend, which makes it a bit more stable in oil than Storm's pure pearl ball.
On the Lanes
The Zing! Hybrid is a weapon for medium to heavy oil scenarios that call for a defined reaction at the end of the oil pattern. It shines especially during the transition phase, when dull solid balls start to lose energy too early (burn-out). Thanks to the compound finish, it gets through played-in heads without trouble, yet it has enough "teeth" in the cover not to slide out in the oil. If you like playing steep angles and need to open up the lane, you'll appreciate the aggressive backend reaction. It generates a lot of angle into the pocket and uses DynamiCore technology to optimize carry even on less than perfect hits. On an extremely dry backend, however, it could react too strongly; weaker material would be the smarter choice there.
