First Impressions
The Radical Jackpot makes a nice visual impression in an appealing black solid color combination. Inside, the symmetric Jackpot core works with a 2.520 RG and a solid 0.048 differential. For the cover, Radical relies on a strong solid reactive coverstock, roughed up out of the box with a 500 and 2000 Siaair Micro Pad finish. This combination of moderate RG and dull shell should make the ball build traction extremely reliably in the midlane. The makeup of the cover supports very predictable energy release, which allows the ball to serve as a classic benchmark.
Comparison
In a direct comparison with the Radical Jackpot Pearl, the solid version shows noticeably more bite in the heads and a considerably rounder hook. While the pearl version was developed to move easily through the boards, the solid cover of the Jackpot grabs noticeably earlier. Against the Storm Phaze II, the Jackpot offers a slightly longer skid phase due to its marginally higher RG, but makes up for it with the strong cover at the breakpoint. Once lane transition sets in, the Jackpot could burn up energy a little too early.
On the Lanes
The Radical Jackpot performs at its best on lane conditions with medium oil volume. Because it reads the lane reliably, it gives you the option of playing a direct, clear line across the boards without the ball making unexpected jumps. On controlled shots, the ball stores enough energy to produce a solid hit into the pocket. The result is consistent carry. If friction in the midlane increases too much, however, it's time to switch to a polished model.
