First Impressions
The Hammer Skulz shows up in an eye-catching design with skull motifs and a clear, transparent polyester shell. Inside works a traditional symmetric 3-piece pancake core, characterized by an extremely high RG and a minimal differential near zero. The cover is pure, hard polyester/plastic, polished to a high gloss. These specs mark the ball as an absolute spare specialist. The combination of hard plastic and weak core should ensure that the ball passes through the heads and midlane completely without reaction and stays extremely predictable.
Comparison
Compared to typical reactive benchmark balls such as the Storm Phaze II, the Skulz has practically no hook at all. Next to a urethane ball like the Pitch Black, the Skulz offers far less traction still and ignores any form of friction on the lane. When the transition on the lane is far advanced, the Skulz remains completely unaffected and consistently delivers its dead-straight path. It is not designed to attack the pocket from an angle to produce strikes.
On the Lanes
The Hammer Skulz shows its ideal performance as a spare ball for all spares, or on extremely dried-up lane conditions where any reactive ball would overreact drastically. Because it does not read the lane, it gives you the option of playing an uncompromising direct line across the boards without the ball looking for a path away from the targeted pins. Carry is completely secondary with this ball. It therefore remains an absolutely essential tool in the bag for precise spare shots in any situation.
