First Impressions
The Hammer Arson High Flare comes in a deep black, orange and yellow solid design. Inside works the symmetric Maverick core, which seems extremely asymmetric in nature and features a low 2.480 RG and a massive 0.054 differential. For the cover, Hammer relies on the extremely tacky Max-Flare solid coverstock, sanded to a 2000 grit Abralon finish out of the box. This combination of an enormously strong flare engine and the roughed-up shell should make the ball read the heads extremely early and build a brutal motion in the midlane.
Comparison
Compared directly to the Hammer Viral, the Arson High Flare is even more angular thanks to its massive flare potential and offers an extremely strong reaction at the breakpoint. Against a ball like the Storm Phaze II, the Arson High Flare delivers comparably strong traction in the midlane. Once the transition on the lane sets in and friction increases, this ball tends to burn off its energy very quickly. It maintains control extremely well on inconsistent boards in deep oil.
On the Lanes
The Hammer Arson High Flare performs best on lane conditions with medium to high oil volume. Because it reads the lane aggressively, it gives you the chance to tame heavy oil patterns without the ball skidding through. On strong releases the ball stores enough energy to produce a solid hit. The result is consistent carry. If friction in the midlane increases too much, though, you should switch to a weaker piece right away.
