First Impressions
The Hammer Burgundy Hammer brings back an absolute legend in a plain, matte Burgundy Solid design. At its center works the adapted symmetrical Modified Vibe Core, which features a high RG of 2.510 and an extremely low differential of 0.022. This core is wrapped in a pure, traditional urethane coverstock, sanded to a matte 500 Abralon finish. These specs position the ball as the ultimate control specialist for extremely short oil patterns. In combination with the urethane cover, the core should make the ball rev up early while reacting extremely smoothly at the breakpoint.
Comparison
In a direct comparison with the Storm Pitch Black, the Burgundy Hammer behaves extremely similarly, offering excellent control and a very smooth, arcing reaction through the midlane. Compared with any reactive ball such as the Storm Phaze II, the Burgundy Hammer shows a massively weaker overall hook. When the transition sets in over the course of play, the pure urethane pushes the oil down the lane (carrydown) instead of absorbing it. Friction on the boards is steadily minimized by this ball, which calms the line down.
On the Lanes
The Hammer Burgundy Hammer was developed specifically for use on extremely short sport patterns or bone-dry lane conditions. It lets you play the outside boards and choose a very direct line into the pocket without having to fear overreaction. The symmetrical core should keep the ball driving continuously through the pin deck. For regular fresh house shots or longer oil distributions, however, this ball is completely unsuitable, as it lacks any backend dynamics.
