First Impressions
The 2019 Ebonite Vortex V2 was a limited re-release of one of the most sought-after balls in Ebonite's history. Its distinctive black-and-blue look made it an eye-catcher on the lanes on looks alone. The coverstock is the new Trimax19 Reactive, an evolution of the historic Trimax material from the original Vortex and Matrix lines, now offering stronger reaction in oil. The surface is finished at 500/1000 Abralon, which provides solid traction. The Modified V2 core was designed with a lower RG of 2.46 inches and a higher differential of 0.051 inches compared to the Enhanced V2 from the Game Breaker series.
Comparison
Compared to the balls from the Ebonite Game Breaker 2 and Game Breaker 3 series, the Vortex V2 has both a lower RG and a higher differential. This combination should make the ball rev up more easily and generate more hook than any previously released Game Breaker. While earlier Trimax formulations created less friction in oil, the new Trimax19 brings both backend aggressiveness and increased reaction in oily areas. Practical testing showed that the ball picks up easily in the midlane and offers strong recovery even on less-than-perfect shots. Bowlers had to move their stance farther left than with other Ebonite balls.
On the Lanes
The Vortex V2 showed its strengths especially on heavy oil patterns, where its early traction paired with strong backend reaction comes into play. On longer, slicker test patterns, players were able to open up their line without trouble, which makes it interesting for a variety of styles. The combination of low RG and high differential makes it ideal if you're looking for both early rotation and continuous hook development. As one of the last Ebonite balls officially produced in the USA, it was designed primarily for medium to heavier oil volumes. If you have a moderate to higher rev rate, it offers the control you need along with strong pocket performance. Ebonite recommends Powerhouse Clean N' Dull for maintenance to keep performance consistent over the long haul.
