First Impressions
The DV8 Activ8 comes in a striking Black/Silver/Purple color scheme and is billed as a mid-performance ball with a symmetrical design suited to a wide range of playing situations. The ball features the Activ8 core with an RG of 2.514 (15 pounds) and a low differential of 0.040. The Composite Fang Hybrid reactive coverstock is finished at 500/1000/1500 Siaair and then given the Crown Factory Polish. The ball was released on June 3, 2021 and represents a further development in DV8's mid-performance category.
Comparison
The symmetrical Activ8 core should deliver consistent length with a backend flip, positioning the ball between the more aggressive high-end options and the weaker entry-level pieces. Compared to the older Turmoil Hybrid, the Activ8 offers a stronger cover and a reworked core. As a continuation of the successful Hell Raiser Return and Damn Good Verge lines, the Activ8 should provide similar performance characteristics in a more affordable price segment. The polished surface sets it apart from many other DV8 balls, which often ship with a matte or semi-matte surface.
On the Lanes
The Activ8 is designed for light to medium oil volumes and should provide length with a flip reaction. It appears particularly well suited if you have a high rev rate or bowl two-handed, and for anyone once the lanes start to break down. The shiny, symmetrical construction should be especially effective when you have to fight broken-down patterns. The polished surface can provide good length down the lane at slower ball speeds.
