First Impressions
The DV8 Instigator comes in a striking color combination of orange, turquoise and black and was released in 2019. The Instigator introduces a new coverstock and a new core to the DV8 family. At its heart sits the asymmetric Assailant core with a low 2.481-inch RG and a high 0.051-inch differential. The Inciter Solid Reactive coverstock is finished at the factory with 500/3000 Siaair pads. The core is built with Brunswick DynamiCore and DOT technology, which allows for a four-year warranty.
Comparison
Even though this is a strong reactive solid, the Instigator should conserve energy well and deliver a big backend hook. DV8 pairs the Inciter Solid Reactive coverstock with the Assailant core to provide maximum hook on heavy oil conditions. Compared to the DV8 Intimidator, which uses the same Assailant core but comes with a different surface prep, the Instigator shows itself to be the more aggressive option for fresh oil. The Intimidator rolls very strongly in the heads and midlane with its 2000 grit, while the Instigator's finer surface prep promises more length and backend reaction.
On the Lanes
The factory prep with 500/3000 SiaAir pads should provide plenty of traction in heavy oil. Bowlers should have enough room for corrections down the back part of the lane, and different player types can play their preferred boards. With a hook potential of 150 on a scale of 1–250 and a length rating of 320, the ball is designed for maximum hook on heavy oil conditions. Power players benefit from the aggressive surface prep and the asymmetric core, while more controlled players will appreciate the predictability of the ball reaction. The DynamiCore technology is said to produce less compression at impact and thereby increase hitting power. The ball is primarily suited to fresh oil patterns and tournament formats where maximum traction and aggressive hook are required.
