First Impressions
Released in August 2018, the DV8 Creed Rebellion adds a genuine heavy-oil weapon to the popular Creed line. Visually it shows up in an aggressive solid color combination of red, black and yellow with a dull 1500 Siaair Micro Pad finish. Technically it pairs the proven asymmetric Creed Low RG core (2.496 RG, 0.055 diff at 15 lbs) with the grabby Composite Claw Solid Reactive coverstock. That pairing makes the intention immediately clear: where the predecessors stood more for length and backend reaction, the Rebellion is built to sink its teeth into the lane early. The low RG makes it rev up quickly, while the high differential generates massive flare to keep bringing fresh cover to the lane.
Comparison
Compared directly to the original DV8 Creed (Pearl), which was loved for its length and sharp break at the breakpoint, the Rebellion is the complete opposite. It reads the lane much earlier (in the heads and the midlane) and offers a considerably smoother, arcing reaction. It is the perfect complement: where the original Creed slides in the oil, the Rebellion grabs. Compared to the DV8 Pitbull Bite (the absolute "monster" of the lineup at the time), the Creed Rebellion is still very strong, but often feels a bit more versatile and not quite as early "burned up" as the extremely heavy Pitbull. It behaves similarly to a Brunswick Kingpin, but thanks to the specific core shape it often offers slightly better energy retention for the pins.
On the Lanes
The DV8 Creed Rebellion is a specialist for heavy oil and fresh sport patterns. It's the first choice when you show up at the lanes and find a thick puddle of oil. It generates traction where other balls only slide ("hydroplaning") and lets you throw the ball into the oil without having to worry that it won't come back. It is especially valuable if you throw the ball fast ("speed dominant") and need help getting the ball into a roll. Once the lane starts to dry up ("transition"), however, it tends to lose energy too early, which makes the switch to the original Creed or the Creed Revelation the logical move.
