BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
Released in July 2018, the DV8 Tactic Control marks an important step for DV8, as it came to market as a dedicated urethane solution. Visually, the ball is a statement of simplicity: a solid, matte black design ("Solid Black") that immediately recalls old-school bowling balls. Inside works the proven symmetrical Turmoil core (known from the Turmoil series). With a 2.53 RG and a 0.041 differential (at 15 lbs), this core delivers surprisingly high flare potential for a urethane ball. It is wrapped in the Control Urethane coverstock. The factory finish of 500/1000/2000 Siaair Micro Pad makes the surface extremely tacky, yet smooth enough not to hook right at your feet. The goal was clear: to provide an answer to the growing popularity of urethane on short sport patterns.
Comparison
Compared directly to the absolute market leader in this segment, the Storm Pitch Black, the DV8 Tactic Control behaves somewhat more dynamically. While the Pitch Black (with its very low differential) generates extremely little flare and runs very straight, the Turmoil core in the Tactic Control produces more flare rings on the lane. That means it creates a bit more friction and a touch more "shape" in the backend, while still staying characteristically early and smooth. Compared to the Hammer Purple Pearl Urethane (which offers plenty of length and kick), the Tactic Control is clearly earlier and smoother. It is more comparable to the black Hammer Urethane: it serves to completely neutralize the lane's reaction and keep the shape as flat as possible.
On the Lanes
The DV8 Tactic Control is a specialty tool developed primarily for short oil patterns and extremely dry lanes. It is not meant for house shots with a lot of volume (there it would simply float). Its moment comes on sport patterns under 36 feet, or when the lane burns up and reactive balls become uncontrollable. It allows you, if you have a high rev rate (crankers or two-handers), to play right at the edge or even over the gutter without the ball overreacting ("overhook"). It offers maximum control: the ball reads early, rolls evenly and hits the pins with a soft but heavy motion. It is the ultimate "safety net" when you have to hit the pocket without taking any risk.
