First Impressions
The DV8 Thug Life shows up in an extremely eye-catching blue, silver and neon green pearl color blend. Inside sits the asymmetric Thug Low RG Core with a 2.505 RG, a strong 0.052 differential and a 0.015 intermediate differential. The outer layer is the Composite Pearl Reactive Cover, polished to a high gloss out of the box with a 500 Siaair pad and Royal Compound. This combination of a strong asymmetric engine and a smooth surface should let the ball clear the heads effortlessly and react hard and angular off the backend. The design delivers maximum asymmetry.
Comparison
Compared to the original DV8 Thug, which has a solid, dull cover, the Thug Life offers noticeably more length and a far sharper backend reaction. Against the Storm Snap Lock, the asymmetric core of the Thug Life provides an extremely similar weight distribution, but the pearl cover gives it an absolutely clean skid through the heads. Once the lane goes through transition and friction on the boards increases, the Thug Life's cover takes extremely aggressive advantage of the developing dry area. The hook is angular and explosive.
On the Lanes
This ball reaches its full potential on medium to slightly dried-up lane conditions. Thanks to the pearl surface it reads the boards late, but stores the massive energy of the Thug core for the backend. When you start playing deeper lines, the Thug Life delivers enough reaction to handle steep angles into the pocket. Carry benefits from the enormous core, since the ball develops strong drive. On very heavy oil, however, the surface skids through mercilessly.
