First Impressions
The Columbia 300 Nitrous stands out with a bright two-tone pearl design that is easy to track down the lane. At the center of the ball sits the symmetrical Nitrous Core with a moderate 2.550 RG and a 0.042 differential. The cover is the BoostR Reactive, sanded and polished out of the box with 500, 1000 Abralon plus Factory Finish Polish. The higher RG keeps the core revving up late, while the smooth surface gives the ball a tremendous amount of length. These specs should let the ball get through the heads cleanly and develop a sharp hook.
Comparison
Compared to the Columbia 300 Swerve, the Nitrous shows drastically more length thanks to its polished cover, along with a considerably more angular move at the end of the oil pattern. Against a classic entry-level ball like the Storm Tropical Breeze, the Nitrous offers noticeably more flare potential due to its higher differential. When transition changes the lane and friction increases, the smooth cover of the Nitrous keeps the ball from giving up energy. That makes it an excellent choice on drier boards.
On the Lanes
The Columbia 300 Nitrous is most at home on light or dried-up lane conditions. It is an outstanding option if you are looking for a clean ball motion once the lanes have been played on. Despite the smooth cover, the symmetrical core produces a dependable hook toward the pocket, which builds confidence when playing direct lines. The ball should maximize carry through a late entry angle. On heavy oil, however, it completely lacks the traction needed to come back reliably.
