First Impressions
The Columbia 300 Raw Urge shows up in a solid burgundy, yellow and black color combination. The heart of this model is the strong asymmetric Urge Core, which features a 2.500 RG, a strong 0.053 differential and a 0.013 intermediate differential. The cover is the tacky AR300 Solid Cover, finished out of the box with 500 and 2000 Abralon. The medium RG lets the core rotate in a controlled manner, while the roughed-up solid surface should make the ball travel very safely through the heads and build up enormous traction. The design aims for a strong midlane reaction.
Comparison
Compared to the original Columbia 300 Urge, which has a pearl cover, the Raw Urge grabs noticeably earlier and offers a much more arcing, controlled reaction at the breakpoint. Against the Storm Alpha Crux, the Raw Urge creates a very similar, hard-hitting motion in heavy oil. As soon as the transition sets in and the front part of the lane dries up, the Raw Urge burns up energy quickly because of its dull surface. It demands plenty of oil in the heads to carry its massive dynamics all the way into the backend without flattening out prematurely.
On the Lanes
The Columbia 300 Raw Urge finds its preferred territory on heavy oil lane conditions. It's the perfect choice if you need a ball on fresh patterns that grabs hard in the midlane and produces a steady hook toward the pocket. The safe reaction helps keep you from overthrowing the breakpoint even with massive volume. The ball should maximize carry through its brutal drive. On dry lanes, however, this ball is far too aggressive and extremely hard to keep on the intended line.
