First Impressions
The Columbia 300 Mad Antics shows up in an extremely menacing black and blue hybrid color blend. At the heart of this model beats the asymmetric Antics motor, which features a low RG of 2.500, a strong differential of 0.054 and a moderate intermediate differential. The outer layer consists of the tacky AR300 Hybrid Reactive coverstock, dulled at the factory with 500 and 4000 Abralon. This combination of a powerful motor and the hybrid surface should make the ball grab extremely securely and deliver a massive, controlled roll phase.
Comparison
Compared to the Columbia 300 Crazy Antics, the Mad Antics offers noticeably more early traction thanks to its tackier cover, along with a far more arcing reaction in heavy oil. Against the Storm Lock, the Mad Antics provides similarly massive midlane control, albeit with marginally less asymmetric snap at the breakpoint. When friction on the lane increases and the transition dries up the front part of the lane, this ball reacts in an extremely controlled manner but loses some energy. It is a strong hybrid for volume.
On the Lanes
The Columbia 300 Mad Antics is ideally suited to lane conditions with medium to high oil volume. For strokers and tweeners it offers the option of playing direct lines on freshly oiled patterns, since the surface finds immense hold in the heads. The steady drive toward the pocket should deliver convincing carry, as the ball rolls heavily through the pin deck. Once the lane dries up significantly, however, the ball can hit flat. In those moments a polished pearl cover is the better call.
