First Impressions
The Columbia 300 Deep Freeze shows up in an eye-catching Blue and Silver Pearl color combination. The heart of this model is the legendary symmetrical Modified Messenger Core, which stands out with an extremely high 2.570 RG and a comparatively moderate differential. The cover is the grabby but polished Pearl Reactive coverstock, brought to a high gloss out of the box. The high RG lets the core rev up very late, while the smooth cover should keep the ball skidding extremely safely through the heads with little traction built up.
Comparison
Compared to strong solid balls, the Deep Freeze grabs extremely late and offers a considerably more stable, tamer reaction at the breakpoint. Against the Storm Tropical Breeze, the Deep Freeze produces a very similar, moderate motion on dry lanes. Once the transition sets in and the front part of the lane dries up completely, the Deep Freeze is in its element. It wants dry boards in order to carry its gentle dynamics into the pins without overreacting at the breakpoint.
On the Lanes
The Columbia 300 Deep Freeze finds its preferred home on extremely dry lane conditions. It's the perfect choice if you need a ball on completely burned-up patterns that slides easily through the heads and produces a steady, small hook toward the pocket. The weak reaction helps keep you from overthrowing the breakpoint. The ball should secure carry at low ball speeds. On fresh oil, however, this ball is unplayable and misses the pins.
