First Impressions
The Brunswick Melee Cross comes in an extremely classic burgundy solid color combination. The heart of this model is the symmetrical Melee Low RG Core, which features a 2.487 RG and a strong 0.050 differential. The cover is the tacky Savvy Hook Solid Reactive coverstock, dulled at the factory to a 2000 Siaair finish. The low RG lets the core rev up very definitely, while the rough solid cover should make the ball build traction extremely reliably in the heads and produce a smooth midlane reaction.
Comparison
Compared to the Brunswick Melee Jab, which uses a pure pearl cover, the Melee Cross grabs noticeably earlier and offers a much more stable, steadier reaction at the breakpoint. Next to the Storm IQ Tour Solid, the Melee Cross creates a somewhat stronger motion on medium lanes with a defined hook at the end. Once the transition sets in and the front part of the lane dries up, this ball remains controllable but burns energy. It uses the friction perfectly to react powerfully yet predictably.
On the Lanes
The Brunswick Melee Cross finds its preferred territory on medium to heavy lane conditions. It's the perfect choice if you need a ball on fresh patterns that reads strongly and produces a steady hook toward the pocket. The solid reaction helps keep you from overthrowing the breakpoint. The ball should ensure carry through a clean entry angle. On heavily dried-up oil, however, this ball is often too strong.
