First Impressions
The Ebonite Energy Source comes in a striking Blue and Gold Pearl color blend. At the heart of this model beats the proven symmetric Mission Core, which carries a 2.500 RG and a strong 0.050 differential. The outer layer consists of the XL1252 Pearl Reactive coverstock, brought to a high shine out of the box with a 1500 grit polished finish. This combination of a rev-happy core, high flare potential, and an extremely smooth pearl shell should let the ball get through the front safely and generate a very sharp, hard-hitting move in the midlane.
Comparison
Compared to the Ebonite Source, which uses a hybrid cover, the Energy Source offers a noticeably longer skid phase and a far more consistent, extremely angular reaction at the breakpoint. Against the Storm Hy-Road Pearl, the Mission core delivers a somewhat stronger change of direction. Once the transition sets in and the lane builds up uneven friction, the Energy Source benefits enormously from its pearl dynamics. It takes excellent advantage of the dry spots.
On the Lanes
The Ebonite Energy Source is best suited to lane conditions with medium oil volume. For strokers and tweeners it offers the option of playing the boards flexibly from deeper angles, since the surface minimizes unexpected reactions and finds strong hold in the backend. The steady drive toward the pocket should provide reliable carry. As soon as the lane gets extremely wet, however, the pearl shell can grab too weakly and the ball can come in flat.
