First Impressions
The Storm Crux draws every eye with its striking Purple, White and Black solid, pearl and hybrid design. At its center works the massive asymmetric Catalyst core, which shows a 2.500 RG, a huge 0.052 differential and a 0.017 intermediate differential. This core is wrapped in the ERG Hybrid Reactive coverstock, finished with a 3000-grit Abralon surface. The medium RG lets the core rotate securely, which in combination with the sanded hybrid cover should make the ball start up strongly and generate a tremendous asymmetric motion.
Comparison
Compared directly to the Storm Crux Pearl, which uses a pure pearl cover, the original Crux shows a drastically earlier and far rounder, more controlled reaction in oil. Compared to the Storm Alpha Crux, the Crux behaves somewhat more agile at the breakpoint, but thanks to the same Catalyst core it offers a similarly forceful and extremely consistent change of direction. Once the transition sets in during the game and friction on the outside boards increases, the hybrid cover makes good use of the dry area without burning up right away.
On the Lanes
The Storm Crux was developed specifically for use on medium to heavy lane conditions. It allows you to generate the hook needed to cross the boards effectively even on deep patterns. The asymmetric core should optimize carry through a steady, massive entry angle into the pocket. For extremely dry conditions, however, this ball is overqualified; it burns up its energy too early and reaches the pins weakly.
