First Impressions
The Brunswick Melee Jab impresses with a classy Deep Blue Pearl look. Inside works the symmetrical Melee Low RG Core with a 2.487 RG and a strong 0.050 differential. For the cover, Brunswick relies on the highly polished Savvy Hook Pearl Reactive coverstock, brought to a high gloss out of the box with 500 Siaair and Royal Compound. This combination of an early-revving yet symmetrical core and a low-friction cover should let the ball clear the heads effortlessly and save its energy for a massive, sharp kick on the backend.
Comparison
Compared directly to the original Brunswick Melee, which uses a dull solid cover, the Melee Jab behaves very differently through the heads and offers a drastic, angular backend motion. Against the Storm Hy-Road Pearl, the Melee Jab delivers considerably more angular length, but builds a powerful hook at the breakpoint thanks to its strong engine. When friction on the lane is high and the transition dries up the front part of the lane, the Melee Jab preserves its energy exceptionally well and makes a radical move.
On the Lanes
The Brunswick Melee Jab is best suited to lane conditions with medium oil volume. For strokers and bowlers with moderate ball speed, it offers the chance to play deeper lines, since the cover saves energy while the strong core provides the massive response off the end of the pattern. The tremendous drive toward the pocket should deliver convincing carry. On fresh, extremely heavy oil, however, this ball may lack traction because of the polished finish. It is a weapon for open angles.
