First Impressions
The Storm Lock stands out with a very striking Crimson, White and Black Pearl/Solid design. At the heart of the ball works the revolutionary asymmetric RAD-X Core with a 2.480 RG, a massive 0.054 differential and a 0.018 intermediate differential. The cover is the extremely tacky GI-15 Hybrid Reactive Cover, finished out of the box with a 3000 grit Abralon pad. This combination of an early-revving core and a strongly gripping hybrid shell should give the ball massive hold in the oil and unleash incredible asymmetric power in the backend.
Comparison
Compared to the Storm Snap Lock, the original hybrid version shows noticeably more traction in the heads and a far stronger overall reaction in heavy oil. Against the Storm Alpha Crux, the Lock offers a very similar amount of total hook, but reacts slightly more nimbly at the end of the pattern thanks to the hybrid portion in the cover. When the transition changes the lane and friction increases, the Lock's cover keeps the ball from sudden jumps, though it uses up a fair amount of energy. It's a true monster on heavy patterns.
On the Lanes
The Storm Lock is most at home on medium to very heavy lane conditions. It's an excellent option for league bowlers looking for a dependable and massively powerful ball motion. The asymmetric core creates a huge entry angle, which builds confidence when playing deep lines. The ball should maximize carry through its continuous, strong drive. On lighter oil, however, the hybrid cover is too strong, causing the ball to roll out too early and turn into the pins flat.
