First Impressions
The Storm Pitch Blue catches the eye immediately with its classic, solid Blue Pearl design. At its center works the symmetrical Capacitor core, which shows a very high RG of 2.570 and a low differential of 0.022. This core is wrapped in the Controll Plus Pearl Urethane coverstock, finished with a moderate 2000 grit Abralon surface. This combination of an extremely late core and an adapted urethane cover should keep the ball extremely controllable and produce a classic, very arcing motion. The pearl additive gives it a bit more length than conventional urethane covers.
Comparison
Compared directly to the legendary Storm Pitch Black, which uses a pure solid urethane cover, the Pitch Blue offers noticeably more length through the heads and a slightly sharper reaction on dry boards. Set against a reactive ball like the Storm Phaze II, the Pitch Blue shows a massively weaker hook and creates a much smoother line. Once the transition sets in over the course of a game, it tends to push the oil slightly down the lane.
On the Lanes
This ball is a specialist for short oil patterns or very demanding, flat lane conditions. It's the perfect choice for precisely controlling speed and the angle into the pocket. If you have a high rev rate, you'll benefit from the fact that the ball never overreacts. The symmetrical core should keep carry predictable thanks to the consistent impact. As soon as the lane calls for more backend reaction, though, the Pitch Blue has to come out of play, since it lacks the punch.
