First Impressions
The Motiv Venom Cobra shows up in a striking Bronze and Black Pearl/Hybrid color scheme. At the heart of this model is the symmetrical Top Gear Core, which features a 2.470 RG and a low 0.035 differential. The shell is the Sabotage Hybrid Reactive coverstock, brought to a high shine out of the box with a 5500 grit LSP finish. The low RG gets the core revving quickly, while the low differential and the smooth cover should let the ball glide through the heads with extreme ease. The design focuses on control and a quick reaction at the breakpoint.
Comparison
Compared to the legendary Motiv Venom Shock with its dull solid cover, the Venom Cobra delivers noticeably more length down the boards and reacts far snappier and more directly at the breakpoint. Against the Storm IQ Tour Pearl, the Venom Cobra produces a very similar steady yet angular motion as soon as it hits dry boards. Once the transition sets in and the front part of the lane dries up, the Venom Cobra benefits enormously from its hybrid cover. It reads friction precisely and translates it into a clean drive to the pocket.
On the Lanes
The Motiv Venom Cobra finds its preferred territory on light to medium lane conditions. It's the logical choice if you need a ball on broken-down patterns that slides through the dry heads without losing control in the backend. The quick reaction helps you play steeper angles and still generate enough power for solid carry. On heavily oiled lanes, however, the polished surface and the low differential simply lack the necessary punch.
