First Impressions
The Storm Rocket Ship comes in a rich 2-Tone Purple Solid design. At the heart of this model is the symmetrical Booster Core, which shows a 2.540 RG and a solid 0.046 differential. The cover is the proven R2S Solid Reactive coverstock, dulled at the factory with a 3000 grit Abralon finish. The moderate RG, combined with the sanded shell, means the ball reads the heads reliably and generates a strong midlane reaction. The technical numbers point to very strong but controllable and smooth ball motion.
Comparison
Compared to the Storm Rocket, which uses a hybrid surface, the Rocket Ship grabs noticeably earlier thanks to its pure solid cover and offers considerably more stability in the heads. Against the Storm IQ Tour Solid, the Rocket Ship's core delivers greater flare potential and a somewhat more dynamic hook at the breakpoint due to the higher differential. Once the transition sets in and more friction develops, the Rocket Ship gives up its energy steadily. On slightly dried-up boards it behaves more calmly than asymmetrical balls, which makes it an extremely strong benchmark ball.
On the Lanes
The Storm Rocket Ship was built for medium to slightly oily lane conditions. It lets you play direct or moderately deep angles across the boards on fresh patterns without the ball burning up prematurely or skidding through. The symmetrical core should keep the ball's continuation excellent for consistent carry and reliable contact in the pocket. On extremely heavy oil patterns, however, the R2S shell sometimes lacks the necessary bite, while on extremely dry lanes it grabs too early.
