First Impressions
The Pyramid Antidote catches the eye with its bright Green Solid design, which is hard to miss on the lane. At the heart of the ball works the symmetrical New Era 149 Core with a 2.550 RG and a 0.054 differential. The cover is the GPS Navigational Solid, sanded to a 2000 Abralon finish out of the box. Despite the somewhat higher RG value, the strong differential in combination with the matte surface makes sure the ball revs up early enough. These specs should let the ball pass through the heads under control and develop a strong, even hook in the midlane.
Comparison
Comparing the Pyramid Antidote to the Pyramid Pathogen, which uses a weaker cover, the Antidote shows noticeably more bite in oil and a stronger overall reaction. Against a classic benchmark ball like the Storm Phaze II, the Antidote offers slightly more length thanks to its higher RG before the surface grabs. When the transition changes the lane and friction increases, the Antidote's higher RG keeps the ball from burning up completely. It can therefore be used longer than solid balls that rev up extremely early, but it still needs more oil than typical pearl versions to draw effectively into the pocket.
On the Lanes
The Pyramid Antidote is most at home on medium to heavy lane conditions. It's an excellent option for league bowlers looking for a dependable, easy-to-read ball motion across the boards. The symmetrical core produces a predictable path, which builds confidence when playing direct lines. The ball should maximize carry through its continuous angle into the pins. However, when the oil pattern is very short or heavily played, the rough surface can eat up too much energy in the front part of the lane, making a ball change to smoother alternatives necessary.
