BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Brunswick Quantum Forest Green Solid, released in November 2016, marks the return of one of the most iconic lines in bowling history. Visually, the ball stands out with its classic, single-color Forest Green, which comes across as purist and does without large logos. Technically, this ball is something special: Brunswick uses a specially engineered Mushroom High RG Core here, surrounded by an extremely thick layer of urethane (3.5 times thicker than on standard balls) to simulate the "hit" of the original Quantums. With an extremely high RG of 2.610 and a massive differential of 0.057 (at 15 lbs), the core delivers numbers that are atypical for a high-performance ball. The surface consists of the PK 2016 Solid coverstock, finished out of the box with a coarse 500/1000 Siaair Micro Pad. This combination of very high RG (length) and rough cover (traction) promises a unique reaction.
Comparison
Compared directly to the Brunswick Quantum Fire Pearl released at the same time, the Forest Green Solid shows a noticeably earlier response to friction, but thanks to the identical high-RG core it retains surprising length for a solid ball. Where the Fire Pearl shows a classic skid/flip reaction, the Forest Green offers a more controlled but still late arc. Compared with a Storm Phaze II, it's striking how much more effortlessly the Quantum glides through the heads due to its core (RG 2.61 vs. 2.48 on the Phaze II) and how much farther down the lane it releases its energy. It doesn't dig into the lane as early as typical heavy-oil balls (e.g. the Brunswick Mastermind Strategy), yet the high differential still generates massive flare. Unique is the sound and the effect at the pin deck, which comes across as meatier due to the thick cover construction and often provides better carry on light hits.
On the Lanes
The Quantum Forest Green Solid is ideal for medium to heavy oil, but it's especially suited to situations where typical solids start up too early. The high RG lets the ball ignore the heads almost entirely, even when they've dried up a bit, and store its rotation for the end of the pattern. That makes it a perfect choice if you have lower ball speed and struggle to get aggressive solid balls far enough down the lane. It does, however, need friction at the breakpoint or sufficient oil volume in the midlane to play to its strengths; on lanes that are too dry the high differential can make it squirrelly, while on extreme flood oil it may skid a bit too long. Its biggest advantage is pin carry: the energy transfer is phenomenal thanks to the special construction.
