BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Storm Match Up Hybrid was introduced in October 2017 as a technical upgrade within the Match series, giving bowlers a versatile option for lighter to medium oil conditions. The defining feature of this ball is the Stinger 2.0 Core, an optimized version of the original Stinger core. With an RG of 2.57 and a differential of 0.035 (at 15 lbs), this symmetric core is designed to maintain rotation for a long time and allow a controlled energy release in the backend. The differential, increased compared to the predecessor, provides greater flare potential, which improves oil absorption. The cover is the Reactor Hybrid Reactive Cover, finished out of the box with a 1500-grit polish. Visually, the ball comes in an appealing color combination of black, orange and silver. This technical configuration aims to get cleanly through the heads and react to friction only late.
Comparison
In a direct comparison to the original Storm Match Hybrid, the Match Up Hybrid offers noticeably more overall motion and a stronger drive through the pins thanks to the Stinger 2.0 core. Where the predecessor often reached its limits when there was a bit more volume on the lane, the Match Up Hybrid shows improved continuation. Compared to the Storm Match Up Pearl, the hybrid version reads the midlane slightly earlier and more stably due to the solid content in the cover, while the pearl version tends to skid even farther and react more abruptly at the breakpoint. Against a Storm Hy-Road, often considered the industry standard for hybrid balls, the Match Up Hybrid is weaker overall and more controlled. The Hy-Road uses a considerably stronger Inverted Fe2 Core that generates more total hook, which makes the Match Up Hybrid the perfect step down for conditions where the Hy-Road already reacts too early or too strongly. Compared to entry-level balls like the Storm Tropical series, the Match Up Hybrid offers substantially more core support and therefore noticeably better carry in the pocket.
On the Lanes
The Storm Match Up Hybrid is an excellent tool for situations where control comes before aggressiveness. Its ideal environment is dry to medium oil conditions as well as typical house shots where the heads are already worn from previous games. When stronger high-performance balls start rolling too early because of the transition and lose power in the pocket, this ball allows you to play the outside boards with a very predictable path. It reacts less sensitively to dry spots in the heads and saves its dynamics for the decisive moment at the end of the oil pattern. If you have a high rev rate, it is often a benchmark option on shorter sport patterns, since it helps keep the angles in front of the breakpoint compact. If you throw at moderate speed or with a lower rev rate, you'll find a reliable partner for late in the evening, one that doesn't slide out in the oil but also doesn't jump sideways uncontrollably. It encourages a clean line and offers enough backend reaction to clear the pins with high efficiency.
