First Impressions
The Pyramid Blood Moon Rising was released on November 24, 2017 as a high-performance model within the Moon series. Visually it shows up in a powerful black/red blend with a matte finish. Inside the ball works the asymmetric SG 19.5 Dual Density Core, which had already been used successfully in the Divergent Path line. At 15 pounds, the core carries a low RG of 2.499, a solid differential of 0.051 and a mass bias differential of 0.020. The coverstock is GPS Navigational Hybrid Reactive, finished at the factory with a 2000-grit Abralon surface. These specs aim to combine early friction through the midlane with an angular backend reaction nonetheless.
Comparison Compared to the original Pyramid Blood Moon, which uses a symmetric core and a polished solid surface, the Blood Moon Rising offers a noticeably more aggressive change of direction and higher flare potential thanks to its asymmetric SG 19.5 core. While the earlier model impresses more with length and a controlled motion, the Blood Moon Rising attacks the oil pattern earlier. Compared to the Storm Phaze II, a benchmark ball with a symmetric core, the Blood Moon Rising shows a sharper move at the breakpoint due to its asymmetric architecture and reacts more sensitively to hand positions. Set against the Motiv Jackal Legacy, the Blood Moon Rising is overall a bit weaker in total hook, which makes it an ideal complement when the Jackal Legacy loses too much energy too early. In terms of performance it slots in between extreme heavy-oil monsters and classic benchmark hybrids.
On the Lanes The Pyramid Blood Moon Rising was developed specifically for medium to heavy oil conditions. It should help if you need a strong midlane reaction without giving up an energetic finish into the pocket. The hybrid cover keeps the ball from overreacting in the heads while still finding enough traction in the oil to stay stable. That makes it particularly effective if you play with moderate ball speeds or are looking for the pocket on fresh oil patterns. In practice the ball shows a very predictable but powerful angle that offers a high margin for error while the oil pattern is still compact through the middle of the lane. It works excellently as a starting ball for league play or for tournaments when a stable base reaction with strong carry is called for, before the transition forces a move to weaker pearl models.
