First Impressions
The Motiv Jackal Rising was released in January 2018 and marks another high point in the evolution of the Jackal series. Visually, the ball comes in a powerful Black/Emerald Solid. Inside works the asymmetric Predator V3 core, designed specifically to raise the rotational potential once again over its predecessors. With a 2.47 RG, a high 0.055 differential and a 0.019 intermediate differential at 15 pounds, this powerhouse is tuned for maximum flare development. The technological innovation lies in the Coercion HV2 (High Volume 2nd Edition) Solid Reactive coverstock, developed for extreme friction in heavy oil. Out of the box, the ball ships with a dull 2000 grit LSS (Laser Scan Sanded) finish, underscoring its purpose of maximum hook.
Comparison Compared to the Motiv Jackal Ghost, the Jackal Rising offers a noticeably earlier reaction in the midlane and a higher overall hook potential. While the Ghost is known for its impressive continuation on the backend, the Rising was optimized to cross even more boards at high oil volume. Placed next to the Storm Phaze II, the Jackal Rising shows a distinctly more massive motion through the entire oil pattern thanks to its asymmetric core and more aggressive cover. Compared to the Motiv Forza SS, the Jackal Rising offers considerably more traction and a more powerful move at the end, which makes it the first choice when the Forza SS slides too far past the breakpoint. Within the brand, compared to the Trident series, the Jackal Rising ranks as the ball with the strongest midlane read, while the Trident models often show a somewhat cleaner skid phase through the heads.
On the Lanes The Motiv Jackal Rising is a specialized tool for heavy oil conditions and long oil patterns. Through the combination of the Predator V3 core and the Coercion HV2 cover, it should find stable traction even on the oiliest lanes and describe a controlled, arcing move to the pocket. It is the ideal choice if you are speed-dominant and often have trouble generating enough ball motion in heavy oil. On a typical house shot (THS), the Jackal Rising often requires moving your playing position further inside because of its strength, since it can react very early and violently on drier spots. It works excellently for "blending" difficult over/under conditions, as its even release of energy minimizes unpredictable reactions. Once the lanes dry up through the transition, however, switching to a weaker ball is advisable to avoid a loss of energy before the ball reaches the pins.
