First Impressions
The Clear Storm White/Navy was released in March 2018 as a stylish addition to Storm's Clear series. Visually, the ball stands out with a clear polyester material with a white-and-blue core visible at its center, giving it an almost transparent, icy look. Technically, this ball is designed as a classic spare ball and does without complex core technology. The 15-pound version uses a simple pancake core characterized by a very high RG of 2.69 and a minimal differential of 0.006. The coverstock is a clear polyester material (plastic), finished at the factory to a high shine with a 3500-grit polish. This combination of materials is intended to minimize any friction with the lane surface and ensure an absolutely straight path.
Comparison Compared to performance balls like the Storm Phaze II or the Storm Code X, the Clear Storm White/Navy has virtually no hook potential. While reactive balls are built to read the oil and respond on the backend, this ball glides unfazed through the heads and out past the pin deck. Set against the Storm Mix, the Clear Storm shows even less response to lane conditions, since the Mix uses a urethane hybrid cover that can describe a slight curve on extremely dry lanes. Compared to the Columbia 300 White Dot or the Brunswick TZone, the difference lies primarily in the looks and in brand loyalty, as the specs of most polyester spare balls are nearly identical. Only against the Hammer Widow Spare does the Clear Storm come up short in terms of dynamics, since the Hammer model has an asymmetric high-performance core, while the Clear Storm is committed to going straight.
On the Lanes The ideal use for the Clear Storm White/Navy is converting spares, especially corner pins like the 10 pin (for right-handers) or the 7 pin (for left-handers). Thanks to the polyester cover and the high-RG core, the ball ignores the transition on the lane and holds its line, no matter how much oil is on the boards or how much the heads have already broken down. That makes it an indispensable tool for bowlers of every skill level to maximize precision on the second shot. For beginners, the ball can also serve as a main ball on extremely dry lanes, allowing a controlled path to the pocket without the ball breaking off uncontrollably into the channels. Since the material absorbs almost no oil, the surface stays extremely smooth for a long time. In the pocket, the ball offers less pin action than performance balls due to the low core mass, though that is a desirable effect when picking off single pins, as it avoids deflection. All in all, the Clear Storm White/Navy is a functional and visually appealing solution for the most important element of the game: making your spares.
