BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
Released in July 2018, the 900Global After Dark Pearl was introduced alongside its solid counterpart to replace the successful Boost series and redefine the entry-level segment. Visually, the ball comes in an attractive combination of black, blue and silver. Inside works the same symmetrical Nightfall core found in the solid model. With a high 2.56 RG and a low 0.030 differential (at 15 lbs), this core is designed to maximize length and keep flare potential low. The decisive difference lies in the shell: here the S30 Pearl Reactive coverstock is used. Combined with the factory 1500 grit polished finish, the ball glides through the front part of the lane even more effortlessly than its solid brother and stores its energy for a somewhat more defined move at the breakpoint.
Comparison
In a direct comparison to the 900Global After Dark Solid (which runs rounder and more continuous), the pearl version offers more length ("skid") and a quicker response to dry. While the solid tries to smooth the lane out, the pearl emphasizes the contrast between oil and dry a bit more, which results in a slight "skid-flip" character — though at a very controllable, low level. Drawing the comparison to competitors such as the Storm Tropical Surge or the Brunswick Rhino, the After Dark Pearl plays in exactly the same league. It is often considered one of the cleanest balls in this class, meaning that even with very little oil in the front part of the lane it doesn't rear up, but reliably skids through.
On the Lanes
The 900Global After Dark Pearl has two ideal areas of use. First, it's the perfect first ball for beginners who want to leave the straight game behind and learn to hook the ball. It offers enough performance to move pins, but isn't so aggressive that it would be hard to control. Second, it's an indispensable tool for experienced sport bowlers on extremely dry or "short" patterns. When the lane is so dry that even weak mid-performance balls hook too early, the After Dark Pearl lets you hold your line. It's excellent for playing right along the edge or up the boards when you don't want to bend the ball across the whole lane.
